I read an interesting article today on red shoes: sin, sex and freedom.
In it the theory is expounded that Kiwi women wear red shoes to help them escape their mundane lives. I find this seriously interesting, and at the moment, while working flat out in the deadline cave, it’s almost enough to send me fossicking through my wardrobe for the stunning pair of ruby red shoes I know dwell in there somewhere, to hopefully help me drum some of the mundane out of my current work in progress.
It also got me thinking back to several very cute pairs of red shoes I’ve been the proud owner of in the past, and yeah, to be honest, I did always feel more confident and more attention grabbing when I wore them. My current goal is a pair of red boots, I nearly bought them earlier in the year but opted for a more sedate grey in the same style instead. I ask myself, why? Red boots are cute! They’re sexy! They’re …. impractical, dare I suggest?
I’ve been known, in the past, to have enough shoes in my wardrobe–cute, sexy impractical shoes–to rival a certain past first lady of the Philippines, and I think about where I was with my life back then and how if I saw a pair of shoes that spoke to my heart (and so many did!) that I would buy them without a second thought. In fact, my father was heard to ask the significant other, when he asked for my hand in marriage, whether he really thought he could keep me in shoes! The local cobbler was my best friend in those days as he re-heeled, re-soled and generally repaired each of my shoes until they were beyond economical repair. Ahhhh, those were the heady days of shoe freedom.
Times changed, somewhere along the line and perhaps my perception of myself did too, and with that my choice of footwear. So what’s a girl to do? Go crazy and hit the shoe shops with a vengeance?

Funny you should mention red shoes… My youngest kitty seems to have a foot fascination this week. She bit my toe this morning. Then she stole my flip flop. Ran off with it until she tripped over it. Terribly funny as she’s a small kitty. And yes, the flip flops are red.
Come to think if it, they’re the only pair of red shoes I own. I’m more of a red dress kinda girl I guess.

Your kitty sounds gorgeous, Ally. Aren’t cats funny creatures, though? My old cat, now long passed, had a total fetish for guests shoes–the smellier the better. As soon as they’d slip them off at our front door she be down there burying her face in them and purring like she was about to burst with glee! Like, eeeeuw!!
Red dresses are cute too. Hmm, that’s another thing lacking in my wardrobe!
