Caught an interesting post today (3 October) on The Writing Playground and have to admit that my mind is totally boggled at the thought of state legislature banning something like the sale of sex toys. Seems a bit OTT to me, but what do you think?

here in america, certain states have banned the sale of sex toys.
so sex toys are never sold as sex toys per se.
they are sold as “adult novelties.”
besides, the most popular “sex toys” are probably those wand massagers…

Adult novelties leaves plenty of room for scope, doesn’t it, but I suppose it wouldn’t be long before TPTB close that loophole too.

it seems rather un-democratic, doesn’t it?
especially when sex toys have been around forever.
even the greek women in aristophanes’ play lysistrata resorted to sex toys when they banned together to boycott having sex with the men unless they gave up war. the greeks gave us democracy and great works of literature on sex toys…
so what does our governments do? first they take away our sex toys and next they will deprive us of any real meaning of democracy.

Ha! Didn’t make the men stop making war, did it? But that’s a whole other discussion… would making sex toys legal stop war?

probably not… although there was another ancient greek writer by the name of homer who suggested in one of his epics that enemies might learn to trust one another by having sex together. so maybe if hillary clinton is elected president next year, she just might find another way to end the war in iraq.
