Thunder and Lightning–love it or hate it?
Personally, I hate it. Ever since I was a kid, and I don’t know exactly why, but
a flash of lightning is enough to totally set my nerves on edge because I know that shortly after comes the clap or roll of thunder. I think the only time I’ve never been scare of thunder was summer ‘07 when I was sitting on our deck, it was a sunny day and there was this bank of black rippling cloud that crackled and rumbled with a really different sounding thunder (or maybe it was aliens from outer spaces.) Whatever, this week in NZ we’ve had some interesting weather, not least of which has been the threat of thunder storms which has made me very edgy.
For me, there’s nothing worse than being awoken by a flash of light and the bang of thunder shaking the house. But I know there are some of you out there who aren’t fazed by this. I envy you, deeply.
So which are you? A hide-under-the-covers kind of person? Or do you embrace the storm and relish it’s power?
I’m with you Yvonne. Get me as far from windows and doors as possible so I can’t see the lightning and let me hide under something that will muffle that awful noise. Don’t like fireworks, doors slamming, cars backfiring either. The peaceful life is definitely for me. Interestingly, both my offspring LOVE thunderstorms.

LOL, Fran, I’ve been known to sit in the stairwell in the centre of our house during a really bad storm. Thankfully we don’t get them often but last year I was home alone during the worst one I can ever remember. We even had a tornado hit about a km from my house!
My kids aren’t so thrilled with thunder storms. Must have inherited that trait from me. So hard to comfort your kids when you’re more terrified than they are

Yvonne i totally hate it. I am 23 years and one roll of thunder and lightening is enough to send me scampering to my mom’s room. I dont know why they always occur in the night, even my dogs join me in looking for comfort from mommy (lol)

Neither. I don’t hate it and hi9de under covers but I don’t embrase it. It’s just there . The first clap of thunder catches me off guard but after that I really pay no mind to it. At night though I wish it would shut up so I can sleep.

Christa, I envy you your sangfroid (I’m with Avi in the scamper-stakes! LOL!) For me that first clap of thunder just sets up the anxiety for what the heck is coming next. Will the storm be closer next time? Further away? Or will it bounce back and forth for a while. Argh!
