RIP The King Of Pop

Okay, he might not have been everyone’s cup of tea in recent years but I, and my family, mourn the loss of Michael Jackson’s brand of talent. His eccentricities less so, but they were all part and parcel of the legend he became.  As I write this our TV is blaring with a tribute on one of our music channels, and we’re seeing him at his best.

 As he should be remembered.

Who could forget the brilliance of Thriller and Beat It? Or Smooth Criminal, or Remember the Time? And I’m reminded of the fact that I even still have a record (yes, vinyl!) — one of those Solid Gold Hit compilations – with him singing. His music has been a part of my life since I was a kid, and has been a part of my kids’ lives too. Thankfully, we will continue to enjoy the benefit of his brilliance.

Michael Jackson, may you rest in peace and thank you for all the entertainment you’ve brought to us over many, many years.

Here’s one of my favourite clips of his although I’m hard pressed to choose just the one for now:

  1. and the world suffered another loss with Farrah Fawcett and last week Ed McManhon. We feel the hole left in the entertainment industry by their loss

  2. Also the fantasy writer David Eddings died a little while ago. But here in Finland -and I suspect in many other places as well- Michael Jackson was the only one whose death really made the news. There was a short story and two small pictures about Farrah Fawcett in todays paper and a short text (they probably didn’t have the time to write any more before printing the paper) and a one big picture about Jackson.

  3. Oh the music of the Jackson 5, The Jacksons, and Michael Jackson’s Thriller in particular showed off his talent. I think I have Thriller on both Vinyl and Tape. And were they played alot when I was growing up. I drifted away from MJ’s music since then, but I have some great memories listening to his songs. And the world premiere of Thriller was such an event. RIP.

  4. Minna, on the day MJ’s and FF’s deaths were announced here in NZ, we had a tragedy where two contractors, who were working on a house that had been relocated to a new site, were killed and two injured when a digger slid down a slope and into the house and knocked it off its piles. The incident barely got a couple of minutes mention in the main news segment of the evening, which really bugged me as it was news that directly affected families here as opposed to the drama and conjecture about MJ’s cardiac arrest or FF’s release from her fight with cancer. Ah well, that’s the media, isn’t it?

  5. Hi Eleni! I know what you mean about the memories associated with listening to MJ’s music. That’s the legacy left by talented artists, right? :-)
